The MELISA® MEDICA Foundation is dedicated to the science of metal allergy and its diagnosis when treating so-called "incurable" diseases such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS or ME), Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or other autoimmune and allergic diseases.
The MELISA® test is the only scientifically-proven blood test which diagnoses metal allergy. It was originally developed for the diagnosis of occupational allergies at Astra Pharmaceuticals (now AstraZeneca).
Every two years, the foundation organises an international conference; The MELISA Study Group. The last meeting was held in Thessaloniki in October 2011, and this was the 15th conference of its kind. The next meeting is likely to be taking place in Italy in 2013.
It is a not-for-profit organisation with three aims:-
- To use the MELISA® technology for research to examine the role of metals in chronic diseases.
- To help explain and promote the field of metal allergy through conferences and research
- To persuade a charity or government that this technology, which has been successfully used on thousands patients, represents a breakthrough in treating diseases like CFS and MS. The science is proven; MELISA® is waiting to be put to the test.
The MELISA® Foundation's directors include Dr Dagmar Magnusson, one of the world's leading experts in amalgam removal and metal-free dentistry, and Dr Birgitta Brunes, a general practitioner, who herself recovered from Multiple Sclerosis and has written about her experience.
